We're Rich, or the Day We Pretended We Were
Wow what a stupid looking picture. On my phone (when it was small) it looked way cooler. But, this is what you get: raw journalism at it's finest. This was first thing in the morning (it was like, 11AM) last Friday. I decided to take the day off so Dave and I could have an adventure.
I figured since Dave would be starting his new job at Ubisoft the following Monday, we needed one last adventure before we couldn't have any more for a while. We never got to celebrate our anniversary in February, so what the hell right? Let's do it in March!
Ahhh it was sunny that day. At least it was when the day began. Then it got cold and grey, and eventually degraded into a full-fledged blizzard before the night was over.
We were going somewhere super fancy for the afternoon, so we had to dress up nice. Yes, that first photo was me dressing up. That's as far as I go on a regular basis. Wait until you see what I am wearing to my brother's wedding....I must have lost my mind that day; it's an actual DRESS.
Her face murders me. Her tiny meows drive the stake in even further. It's as if she is asking you where you are going and what time you will be back, all concerned-like that you WON'T be coming back. Sigh.
Cool face bozo.
Oh god. Yep. This is the winner. If we ever got married this would be our engagement card. Squinting into the future...that's what we would name our theme.
Then we went to our favourite-of-all-time breakfast spot. It had been awhile. It was just as delicious as always. I am starving right now and finding this hard to look at.
Oh I meant that. I didn't realize it was two entire pictures down. Dave's latte is also making me salivate. It has been almost 5 months since I quit caffeine, and lately I have been jonesing for it. Especially when I smell a latte and/or chai tea (which I did today). Oh dear.
We rented a car for the day and took a nice walk down a dark alley to get to it. Just kidding. It wasn't dark. It was a COOL alley. The only kind I walk down. Graffiti is awesome. Shit, brb, pizza is here.
I am now bloated and full of pizza and other garbage. It's been one of those weeks where pizza is ok. Thank god my work week is done after tomorrow.
Anyway, back to our awesome fun time Feb anniversary in March. So we are walking....
Oh look, this guy has been featured on my blog before!
My friend saw this picture on Facebook and he called me a fucking hipster. I told him not to be jealous as he too could be a giant loser whenever he wanted. Except he already is. Hey, Shaun?
This picture is becoming a habit.
We went to the King Edward Hotel , to an afternoon high tea. That is why we had to dress up. Look at me with my Fossil bag. Oh right, I splurged on myself and bought a $300 bag. Holy fuck right? I deserved it. It was the only time in my life that I would ever have that much money at once. Usually when I buy something that is that expensive (which is never) I have guilt, or later, buyer's remorse. Not this time. I got a bonus at work and I deserved every stupid penny of it. So now, when I am living on the streets because I spent all my money on a bag, I will be a damn fine looking hobo. Hobo chic. At that moment, I definitely felt pretend super rich, being in a ritzy hotel, going to a high tea. I could get used to that life.
Choosing tea from our humidor. Well la-di-da. I had been to this high tea once before for Jessi's bachelorette and I have been dying to get my grubby hands on some of that imported Devonshire cream, or clotted cream for those in the know. I swooned about that shit for days after my first time, and then for days before this, so they had a lot to live up to. Oh and they did, they did....
Smelling his tea. I recommended the lapsang souchong. It smells exactly like camp fire because it is pine smoked. It doesn't taste that way though, because that would be gross. I remember smelling it the last time I was there and wanted it really badly. Back when I drank caffeine...sigh. I tried a sip of his though and it was very good. I got the lemon verbena. Also, I am not a tea connoisseur people, I am reading off the online menu.
Look at the muscle in my shoulder/ neck. Holy shit balls! This pizza gorging was definitely needed tonight. I am turning into the Hulk!
Because everywhere we go, we do our best to class up the joint.
Tea bits in my tea. I was over eager and poured like a crazy person. I must not know my own Hulk-like strength.
The goods. The expensive, delicious goods. I am eying that middle tier as if it is a life raft in the middle of the ocean. That's where 'the cream' is.
That's real champagne! Dave had to tell me that only champagne from Champagne, France is real champagne. Otherwise it is only sparkling wine. I had no idea. I thought it was real from it's exorbitant price. It was gggooooooooood though. Got me nice and tipsy.
The Devonshire cream! Picture me saying that in a high pitched squeal and you will understand my excitement. Also sadness that I don't get to eat this everyday. It's probably a good thing, I guess :(
On our way out. We got 25% off our bill because there was construction going on in the hotel. We were like, "there is?". Sweet deal. Places like this are so classy and awesome though, they do things like that.
On our way back to the car we decided to take a stroll through the Eaton Centre, or as I like to call it "the big mall". This place is packed with tourists all the time, so I didn't feel weird taking pictures. Everyone takes pictures in this mall. Christmas time is insane here.
We were on a catwalk, in a quiet section of the mall. I liked this section the best.
Then we drove around for a bit, and went to Dairy Queen. In the middle of the above-mentioned snow storm. It was freezing, seriously. We ate our ice cream in the car with the heat on full blast.
We took the car back early and headed home. We were tired. We put our pjs on and watched a movie together. All in all, it was a pretty fantastic spontaneous anniversary.
Everyone needs to have adventures like these! Make time for it. It doesn't need to cost a lot of money. It's important.
Happy adventures!
