Book: The Glass Castle
I just recently finished reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It has had a lasting impression on me, as this woman grew up with nothing it seems, but at the same time her life experiences are so much that one might think she grew up with everything. She moved around all over the place and was extremely poor, but the way she writes is like, well that’s life and you deal with it. She never complains about how she used to live, she embraces it and makes it into a part of her history and who she is today. I think its an amazing story to remind people of a few things. The first thing being that people complain too much these days, when really, they have everything they need right in front of them to enjoy a full and pleasant life. They just don’t want to see that. And secondly, it reminds me of the fact that material things are'n’t always so necessary in my life. People judge their worth on all the shit they have, but not on how far they have come, or what they have to say and offer. I sometimes lose sight of that. So the next time you feel like your life sucks or you have been dealt a horrible hand, read this book and see what your life COULD have been like. It will make you appreciate what you have at this moment.
